Skin is the subject every viewer audits without being asked to. A hillside can be pushed a long way before anyone objects; a face goes wrong within a few points of hue and everybody sees it, including people who could not say what moved. Most of that damage comes from treating skin as one colour. It is not one colour, and the light it was shot under decides as much about the rendering as the tone does.
